HINARI and AGORA

HINARI (Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative), sponsored by the UN's World Health Organization in partnership with over 60 publishers, provides access to more than 3000 journals in medicine, nursing and related health and social sciences in public institutions in 100+ developing countries.

Those countries with an annual per capita GNP of less than $1000 can gain free access while those with a GNP of $1000-$3000 gain access for a nominal fee that is then invested in local training initiatives. The journals can be searched through a special version of PubMed (Medline) and access is available through www.who.int/hinari.

AGORA (Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture), sponsored by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization in partnership with over 30 publishers, provides access to more than 800 journals covering agriculture, fisheries, food, nutrition, veterinary science, and related biological, environmental, and social sciences in public institutions in 50+ developing countries.

Those countries with an annual per capita GNP of less than $1000 can gain free access, and again local training is provided. Access is available through www.aginternetwork.org.
