The Pacific Coast Branch, American Historical Association
The Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association (AHA) was formed as a branch of the AHA in 1903 and currently has a membership of nearly 3,000. It is composed of all members of the Association living in the western states and provinces of the United States and Canada.
A professional organization of teachers, professors, researchers, librarians, writers, and publishers, the Pacific Coast Branch of the AHA holds an annual convention, usually selecting an area of historical or recreational interest for the conference location. The AHA promotes the study of history by encouraging and facilitating research and professional activities. It also publishes
The American Historical Review.
The Pacific Coast Branch awards prizes for scholarly books and articles, including the W. Turrentine Jackson Award, given to the author of the most outstanding dissertation on any aspect of the history of the American West in the twentieth century.
